The Day – Application process opens Monday for Norwich Revitalization Grants
Norwich – The application process for Norwich’s new revitalization scheme will open on Monday and run until April 14 for projects such as commercial building upgrades and business expansions.
The Norwich Community Development Corporation administers the program, funded by $2 million from the city’s US Bailout Federal Coronavirus Recovery Grant.
“Businesses large and small, and the city as a whole will benefit from this creative development program,” NCDC President Kevin Brown said in a press release. “We appreciate the patience of the business community as we conducted our due diligence and developed this program.”
The program is designed to reduce the risks and costs associated with preparing commercial spaces for tenants. Approved projects will allow owners and businesses to update their commercial space for new businesses or the expansion of existing businesses.
Recipients will be reimbursed in 50% matching grants, with a cap of $300,000, for building code fixes and vanilla box renovations that prepare spaces for future use, with upgrades such as the flooring, lighting, HVAC and cosmetic upgrades.
Project costs will be estimated by the applicant, verified by an independent technical assistance team and paid only upon completion of approved work. NRP can also be combined with Norwich Public Utilities incentives, rebates and programs.
The application form can be found on the NCDC website, askncdc.comunder “Planning and development”.
The Business Review Board assessments are scheduled for March 14, April 14 and May 16. The evaluations will determine the best use of available funds among the applications received. Early application is encouraged. Final selections will be tentatively announced by May 20.
